Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy Exercise

Sheri Brimm PT is completing training in AOMT (Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy) certification.  This involves the rehab of oral posture, proper tongue rest posture, and airway / breathing as it relates to the tongue and palate.  

These techniques can be helpful for pre-post op tongue tie procedures, palate expansion /orthodontics procedures to help retrain the muscles to work more functionally.  

SYMPTOMS TREATED BY OMT EXERCISE

Jaw pain, pain with chewing, grinding of teeth at night.

Sleep disordered breathing, retracting chin and collapse of the throat area due to low tongue resting posture.

Oral breathing rather than nasal breathing, with symptoms including congested nose, difficulty with diaphragm breathing, and neck / jaw tension.  

Tension in the oral structures causing difficulty with swallowing mechanics. 

 Tension or soreness  in the throat area, neck, cranial area and jaw.
